Putter grips are an easy way to make you feel more comfortable on the greens and save you from some stress and tension on the course.

But plastic grips are slippery and they’ll force you to choke up on the club.

Fortunately, there are a bunch of great putter grip brands you can try like Cord grips, Winn grips, Golf Pride grips, Lamkin grips, and others. Not to mention that these grips feel comfortable in your hands, last a lot longer than plastic ones, and won’t cost you a fortune.

As the name suggests, their primary use is on the short stick, but you can also buy them for mids and putters. So, without further ado, let’s take a deeper look at each putter grip brand and find out what you should expect from them.

Pros:

  • Reversible Putting Style
  • Consistent Handling
  • Ideal For Heavy Rollers
  • Aesthetically Unappealing
  • Great Feel
  • Affordable
  • Built To Last

Our favorite putter grip brand going forward into the coming years is the Super Stroke fatso 5.0. This putter grip offers a reliable, user-friendly experience that is ideal for any golfer.

The Super Stroke fatso 5.0 offers a unique reversible design. This allows a golfer to establish their preferred putting style. If you have a weak grip, the putter grip is comfortable. If you have a strong grip, the putter grip works well for you too. You can easily reverse the grip after getting comfortable with it.

This putter grip is made with a cushioned shock absorption system. This helps take out some of the vibrations and gives easy control. This will help you play more confidently and avoid erratic behaviors. The fatso 5.0 design also holds up extremely well with continued use.

2. FLAT CAT Putter Grip

Our rating: 7 / 10

Pros:

  • Very Affordable
  • Grips are grippy — they make them a little thicker than most on the market
  • You’ll have a flat style putter — you won’t have the little bump thing going on

Cons:

  • If it was a review on the color it’d be a 3 (it is almost a little too greyish. I’d give it a 4/5 if it was darker
  • The plastic is a bit thin — there’s a gap between the grip and the shaft a little bigger than the other grips we’ve tried
  • The plastic is a tiny bit greasy

Conclusion:

Of all the grips that we’ve tried this one is still my favorite — however I don’t recommend it solely for a better putter. If you have not had much success with your putter please buy a Driver, 3 wedges and a sand wedge and then step back and ask yourself why you’re not playing your best golf. WORK ON THAT FIRST, THEN buy a putter grip.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Which putter grip is best?

Believe it or not, a putter grip can make a huge difference in your accuracy. They’re designed specifically to fit your hand and optimize your ability to putt the ball accurately. Below are 5 of the best putter grips on the market.

What putter grip does Rory McIlroy use?

Putter grip choice is very personal and comes down to personal preference. Rory McIlroy is often anointed as a true master of the game with only one flaw in his game – putting. It's difficult to identify which putter grip Rory uses as he has used a variety of putter grips throughout his career.

McIlroy actually put up the best performance of his career in 2016, only missing out on the Majors he'd been chasing his whole career. A total of five wins made it a stellar year, despite only leading the PGA Tour for one week – the first week he made a change.

The putter grip he used on that tour – and has been using since – is a Pistol Pete grip. Rob McLean, a Canadian professional putter grip fitter based in the UK, wrote a piece for us in September last year about McIlroy's change in grip.

Does putter grip size matter?

What size putter grip do I need?

When it comes to finding the perfect grip size for your putter, it’s all about your style of golf and the kind of grip you prefer. The typical range is from 1.00 inches to 1.50 inches. Anything over 1.50 inches is going to start feeling uncomfortable in the hand and will be harder to hold properly. If you’re struggling with your grip size, you can go with what feels more comfortable. Try swinging and see if it gives you more of an accurate look at your putt.

Conclusion

The grip should be one of the last things that you change on your putter. Make sure that you are comfortable with the new putter grip, that it feels right in your hands before changing it, especially during peak golf season.
