No matter how good a driver is, he/she won’t be very effective without a decent set of golf balls. And no matter how good a golf ball is, it’ll be a waste if you’re not a talented golfer.

Buying is not something anyone would want to do over and over again, especially if the last set was something you liked. So now we want to offer you our review of the best golf balls.

The Snell MTB Black is a 3 dimple golf ball that’s similar to the Pro V1 we’ve all been hearing about. Its looks and feel look a lot alike as well and the specs are very similar.

Pros:

  • Fast delivery
  • Great customer service
  • Long distance with high spin
  • Quiet round with medium-high trajectory

Cons:

  • Balls tend to scuff easily
  • Some users complain about poor quality
  • Some claim the balls are too small for normal golfers
  • Raisin seeds are sometimes a part of the package

The Vice Pro Soft Ball is a type of golf ball with a soft core. These balls have an extremely low spin rate and are produced in high volume. As a result, they are regarded among the fastest of the professional grade balls on the market.

The Vice Pro Soft is, in fact, the softest of the three models offered by Vice Golf. This is because the outer layers are designed to be as hard as possible. This is to ensure that the driver is long while a high spin on the ball ensures the best possible combination of distance and consistency.

It is important to note that the Vice Pro Soft has a soft outer core. A soft core means that you’ll have to buy some new balls frequently. A nice soft core also means that these balls travel further than their counterparts.

Do They Really Come Close To The Titleists?

The Vice Tour expands on the ball technology of the Vice Pro V1 with its model name that signifies the index number of the ball core. For instance, the Vice Tour Soft feel has a ball core that is 1-15. The Vice Pro V1 has a ball core with an index of 3-5. Naturally, as the index number increases the ball core gets softer, resulting in a softer feel in your hands than the Pro V1, but better durability.

I personally compared the two while playing in a recent tournament on the Nicklaus Legacy course in Orlando. I have played that course a lot and have always used the Pro V1's for the greens and for long par 5's. The difference in flight and distance was not much, despite the index difference. That being said I decided to use the Vice Tour Soft feel in this round and was more than blown away by the performance and feel of the ball.

Ritchey's Vice Golf Balls comes at a very competitive price for a top-rated ball. We consider this ball to be one of the best golf balls in 2019.

With the VP 2020 irons, this is one of the best balls that we've tested in relation to price. It's not a Titleist ProV1, but this is an exceptional ball, especially at the price.

It isnt as long as its Titleist counterpart, but we were able to hit it about the same distance most of the time. We feel with the Vice Golf ball, you can sacrifice a little distance for added spin and control.

8. Titleist Pro V1 Prior Generation Golf Balls

Our rating: 7 / 10

Titleist Pro V1 Prior Generation Golf Balls

Pros:

  • Official size and weight
  • Durable core
  • Look just like the real thing
  • Affordable alternative to Pro V1

Cons:

  • Can be hard to find
  • Not too long lasting
  • Doesn’t pack that booming feel

My top pick for golf balls is the Titleist Pro V1. It’s a remarkably engineered and well constructed golf ball. I’ve always been a fan of the Titleist Pro V1 mold, and have found the Pro V1x to echo my love of the Pro V1…pun intended. We’re big fans of the classic Titleist Pro V1, but for many, that love has come with a hefty price tag.

With the demise of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) pricing to combat cross-branding, you cannot expect to find the Pro V1 at a discounted rate anymore. The good news is that there’s a great alternative product that’s emerged on the market that’s been proven to play just as good as the real thing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Are vice balls as good as Pro v1?

What makes the pro V1 so popular are the special dimples. These special dimples have the potential to go 30% farther than regular golf balls. If you’ve never hit a ball with the dimple technology, it is hard to explain what the difference feels like.

We, along with countless golfers feel that vice golf balls are just as good as Titleist Pro v1. If you take a look at the reviews, you can see that most golfers who tried them hadn’t noticed any difference between regular Titleist balls and vice balls. Despite the large number of positive reviews and feedback, VPI, the manufacturer of the vice line of golf balls, insists that their product is not comparable to the pro v1. VPI has improved upon the original dimple design, but does not believe that Titleist dimples can be recreated.

Which vice golf ball is best?

Well, there are several brilliant choices and your experience may differ from mine. I used to think that the Pro V1 was the best ball on the market. This is the ball that I have used for years and that I thought was the best of all.

It seemed to go forever through a mountain tops of rough and once it slowed down on the green, it was settled and it would stop quickly. I never had many problems with this golf ball with regard to distance and accuracy and it helped me shot low scores.

Now however I’m partial to the new Vice golf ball, which is something I might have been bitter about for a while. It took over the mantle of the best ball from the Titleist Pro V1.

Are vice balls any good?

If you read the description on Vice Golf's website, they're careful to state their balls are for recreational players. They don't claim that their balls are the next Pro V1, Titleist's best product. But for the casual player, they're a decent option.

They are made up of a four-piece construction along with a soft elastomer layer which creates a very soft feel. This can be an advantage for recreational players because it is easier to shape your shots with the soft feel.

The soft feel doesn't mean you sacrifice distance. These golf balls come in a high-launch and high-spin design that will be helpful for weekend warriors determined to get further down the fairway.

What golf balls are similar to Pro v1?

There are a lot of similarities between Pro v1’s and these balls. The Vice has the same core and cover as a Pro V1. As a result, they have a similar spin, but slightly lower launch and ball speed. Overall, the performance is very similar to a Pro V1. You’ll play the same distance off the tee and enjoy the same spin on the green.

Just like the Pro V1’s, Vice’s also have a consistent flight shape that’s swing speed-friendly. Unlike a lot of other balls, they can be hit off your heel and still travel the same distance. Vice’s have much better durability though, which means you’ll still play like new even if you accidentally hit them off the toe of your driver.

Conclusion

There is a range of non-tour balls out there, from prices well under that of a Pro V1 to those that are just as good or almost as good as a Pro V1. The point in having a discussion about these proven performers is that, for many golfers, there is another option –- a sign that times are changing for the better. Let the buyer beware.
